SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 encourages artists, educators, engineers, filmmakers, innovators producers, researchers, and scientists throughout the world to submit their work for presentation in Yokohama, 16-19 December 2009.
Please review the program overviews and begin planning your submission. If you have questions about the programs or the types of work they are inviting, please contact the program chairs or myself. We will do our best to answer your questions and provide all the information you need to prepare a successful submission. We look forward to learning how your recent achievements are contributing to the pulse of innovation.
PROGRAMME OVERVIEWS
- Art Gallery The SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 Art Gallery will feature a diverse, international body of art and design, ranging from pieces driven by technology to works that critically comment on our technological society. The works will be selected based on four criteria: the depth of the concept of the work, aesthetics, craftsmanship, and relevance to the theme of the show.
- Computer Animation Festival The SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 Computer Animation Festival celebrates the contributions of artists, designers, and scientists to our understanding of the world through the medium of computer animation. The festival presents a comprehensive and compelling distillation of the best work in the world that advances animation, visualization, real-time rendering, and entertainment via computer animation, and we invite you to submit your work to become part of the festival.
- Courses At SIGGRAPH Asia 2009, hundreds of practitioners, developers, researchers, artists, and students will attend the Courses program, to broaden and deepen their knowledge of their field, and to learn the secrets of new fields. The insights they gain shape hardware and software products, computer-animated films, and future research directions. Share your knowledge with them and influence the future of our field by presenting a course at SIGGRAPH Asia 2009!
- Educators Program The Educators Program is a place where people from all levels and disciplines, from academia and industry, can share their research, methods, and opinions about the teaching and integration of computer graphics and interactive techniques in all areas of learning. We view education as a natural part of the lifelong learning process, and we wish to support the evolving integration of art and technology embraced by educators. Envisioned as an international gathering of industry professionals and academics, the Educators Program will present perspectives that appeal to a wide spectrum of interests. We will share educational strategies adopted in both industry and academia to make the learning process more satisfying, productive, and meaningful.
- Emerging Technologies Emerging Technologies is a showcase for innovations that will change the way we work, live, and play. For SIGGRAPH Asia 2009, we are seeking works that show how digital technology adapts, or can help us adapt, to a world in flux. Adaptation can have many meanings, from machines that repair themselves under stress to technologies that help humans survive in adverse conditions. Adaptations can also be unexpected or unwanted. We are particularly interested in seeing examples of how computer graphics and interactive techniques are evolving to adapt to new conditions: technical, social, environmental, or something else entirely.
- Sketches & Posters The Sketches & Posters program provides a dynamic forum for new and thought-provoking ideas, techniques, and applications in computer graphics and interactive techniques. The program covers a broad spectrum of topics including digital art, design, science, engineering, and many more. It encompasses ideas ranging from academic research to industrial development, from practical tools to behind-the-scenes explanations of commercial and artistic work.
- Technical Papers The SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 Technical Papers program will continue the tradition of excellence in computer graphics and interactive techniques that SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH Asia are known for. We invite submission of high-quality papers that will set the standard in the field and stimulate future trends. Accepted papers will be presented at SIGGRAPH Asia 2009 and published as a special issue of ACM Transactions on Graphics. In addition to the core topics of modeling, animation, rendering, and imaging, we also encourage submissions from areas related to computer graphics: scientific visualization, information visualization, computer-aided design, human-computer interaction, computer vision, robotics, and applications such as film special effects and computer games. This list is not exhaustive. As always, excellence of the ideas is the predominant acceptance criterion.
